Simposio sobre el Antifonario Mozárabe de la Catedral de León

simposioLa Sociedad Española de Musicología, el Cabildo de la Catedral de León y el Instituto Nacional de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música del Ministerio de Cultura de España han organizado un simposio los pasados días  24, 25 y 26 de marzo de 2011 sobre el Antifonario de León titulado El Antifonario de León, el Canto Mozárabe (Viejo-Hispánico) y su entorno litúrgico musical.
En el simposio sobre esta obra han participado algunos de los mejores musicólogos del mundo como David Hiley, Giacomo Baroffio, Thomas Nelly, Michel Huglo, Kenneth Levi e Ismael Fernández de la Cuesta.

El Antifonario Visigótico Mozárabe de la Catedral de León (Ms nº 8) es un importante manuscrito que contiene los cantos de las celebraciones de la Liturgia visigótico‑mozárabe. Consta de 306 folios de pergamino (330 x 240 mm.), escritos generalmente a una sola columna en letra visigótica. De ellos, 22 folios contienen miniaturas.

El Antifonario fue copiado en el año 1069 por el abad Totmundo, en el monasterio leonés de San Cipriano del Condado. El copista dedicó la obra al abad Ikila, que llegaría a ser obispo de León. En una nota escrita en el folio 25 se dice que fue copiado directamente de otro manuscrito del siglo VII de la época del rey Wamba.

El manuscrito comienza con una Cruz de Oviedo y una miniatura en la que se ve a Totmundo entregando el libro una vez terminado al abad Ikila. Esta representación de la entrega de la obra finalizada era bastante frecuente en los primeros códices.

El Antifonario presenta la notación musical en neumas sin pentagrama, en notación visigótica. Hasta el momento no ha podido ser descifrada, a pesar de los esfuerzos realizados por los musicólogos. Contiene muchas ilustraciones, especialmente escenas de la vida de Jesús. Algunas letras poseen entrelazados que revelan influencias del arte carolingio. El Antifonario es el principal exponente de la liturgia hispana del siglo XI y, como lo calificó Louis BROS, es “la joya de los antifonarios latinos” y una de las principales obras del patrimonio musical español y mundial.
